Decorating 101: Bathrooms

Do you have a bathroom that feels small and cramped? There are many possible ways to make your bathroom feel more spacious and less cramped. This article will give you tips and ideas that will help you go from a small cramped room to a room that you can appreciate.

By changing the color, lighting and a few other things, your bathroom can be transformed without adding to the square footage. With only a few changes you can make your bathroom look as cozy or as elegant as you want.

Pale Colors Open Up a Room
This does not mean that you need to paint your bathroom white, but instead that light, pastel colors make space appear larger visually. If you have a dark colored floor you may have to consider making it lighter. Walls should be painted soft shades of peach, cream or any other light color. Bold colors should be saved for artwork on the walls and smaller accents such as towel holders. A vanity’s doors, as well as the top of the vanity, should be light colored. Wooden cabinet doors can easily be changed with very little paint. Towels used as décor should be chosen based on light shades that compliment the rest of the room.

Bring More Light In
You can visually open up, and brighten, any room by adding light to the area. Alternate sources of lighting, like wall sconces, recessed lighting in the ceiling, and even a small lamp for the vanity can all be added to the bath. A skylight with help brighten up the room with natural light if it is within your budget.

If It Takes Up Space, Take It Out!
It is common for people to have extra shelves in their bathrooms for holding towels, cotton balls and other vanity items. It is easy to detract from a spacious and open look with object that protrude into the room. Removing shelving and other units of storage should be considered; items stored in them can easily be moved into a linen closet or be put under your vanity. It is amazing how spacious a room looks when you remove clutter.

Expand With Mirrors
Mirrors reflect light, this has been long known. They make any room appear much larger. The color and design of the bath can easily be reflected by simply replacing the mirror over the vanity with a larger one. Using an over-sized mirror works perfectly, but if you prefer to use several mirrors arranged artistically to add interest and reflect light you may. And, if space allows you may use another mirror on a separate to expand the boundaries of the room.

No matter the room, clutter will always look messy and visually diminish the size of it. This will always hold true, even in the bathroom. Less clutter means that the room will look cleaner and more streamlined. Small items such as toothpaste, deodorant, floss and other items should be stored away so that they don’t take up room on the vanity. If you use these tips your bathroom will look as if it has doubled in size!

Making the Most of Your Bathroom

Its always wise to carry out some planning when considering a complete bathroom makeover. You will need to budget for expensive items, possibly including a complete new bathroom suite. But a new bathroom can bring much needed improvement to the quality of your bathing experience.

When planning your bathroom renovation or makeover you need to consider the way in which you and your family use the bathroom. You may all want to use the bathroom at the same time in the mornings so you may like to consider installing two sinks. Something that is often overlooked is the number of power outlets needed.

Something else that is often forgotten in many bathroom designs is the need for in-bathroom storage. It's often more convenient and a good idea to store towels and bathroom sundries inside the bathroom somewhere. So you may want to consider a modern, space saving bathroom cabinet that can look stylish as well as being highly practical.

Always take the time shop around with considering bathroom suites. I always tell people that they should visit as many bathroom showrooms as possible in order to get a close look at what's available. There is great variation in the quality of materials and workmanship used in various bathroom suites. Once you've shortlisted a few candidates go online to find the best deal possible. Generally, online retailers are much cheaper than those with showrooms.

Another key element to consider in your bathroom makeover is lighting. Your bathroom lighting needs to be bright enough to use the mirrors. But it's also good to be able to subdue the lighting for those long relaxing bath-time soaks.

Planning is the key when it comes to re-designing your bathroom. You will get the bathroom that you and your family will love if you take a little time to carry out some planning. And remember, shop around and then buy online for great savings.

Many of us view their lavatory as a retreat where they can hide out at the end of the day and enjoy a long soak in the tub or a steaming, warm shower.  These days, bathrooms are more than only bathrooms.  Many folks use bathrooms as a retreat from life.

Many of us would love to boost our toilets but feel the costs might be overwhelming and out of our reach.  Actually, a bathroom remodel does not need to be such a major cost.  There are many tiny things that we can do to our loos that may greatly improve them without draining our bank accounts in the method.

Update the rest room Tiles

One change we will make is to simply update the tiles in the bathroom.  I have seen too many bathrooms where the tiles appear to be the least expensive thing that the builder could source.  They're plain and boring.  There are no real patterns or attraction.

It's not that I am announcing that we need to go in and replace all of the tile in the bathroom either.  If everything is simply too neutral, we might need to consider some accent tiles here and there to add a dash of colour.  In doing this, we might decide to make some colourful patterns on the floors or walls.  If that appears like too much work and cost, we could consider simply doing some coloured tiles to spotlight areas round the tub or sink.

There are tons of good books available on how to install tile and it doesn't need to be a major project.  There are also free resources available.

Here in the US, lots of the big-box home-improvement stores will happily provide you with free info, or perhaps classes, on the way to install tile.

Updating cupboards and Fixtures

Another thing we are able to do to really improve the appearance of our toilet or for a simple bathroom remodel is to think about updating the cabinets and fixtures.

For the cabinets, we do not necessarily have to replace them since that may be dear.  Putting on a fresh coat of paint or re-staining them can make a big difference in their appearance.  This will make the cabinets look nearly new and someone that sees them might believe that we have essentially replaced them.

The light fixtures that builders install are commonly not terribly appealing.  Replacing those cheap fixtures can be a drastic improvement.  Light fittings can be exceedingly cheap and can noticeably improve the appearance of the room.

If we have old, ugly faucets in the bathroom, we are able to update them with newer, nicer ones.  New chrome or brass faucets could look good.  This is particularly true if we get something more stylish.

Like the lighting and faucets, we can also replace the knobs on the cupboards with something nicer.  Knobs are extremely simple to replace and they aren't extremely expensive.  After painting or staining the cabinets, try to imagine how nice they'd look after we put shiny, new hardware on them.

Just a Splash of Paint

One of the least cheap things we will do to modify the appearance of our lavatories is to paint them.  A fresh coat of paint, in a nice color, can make it feel a bit like a new lavatory.  You can either paint all of the walls a similar color or even just create an accent wall to improve the general appearance.  We can add some warm colors or we will add some bold colours, depending on our personal choice.

All we have to do is use our imagination to think of some things we can do to dress up the space without spending too much cash.  We can go to our local home-improvement store and just browse around for ideas.  As we look at different ideas, we can guess how much it might cost us to make those changes.  Actually, we can make changes to our bathrooms without spending enormous amounts.  Just let your budget be your guide and be creative.
